The 2024 Met Gala is a hotbed of celebrities, though not every celebrity is there, though some creative AI pranksters are trying to fool people into believing they are.
AI faked photos of Katy Perry and Rihanna have surfaced on social media, despite any actual proof that they hit the red carpet.
Perry, 39, took the AI fakes in stride, posting two faked images of “her” on Instagram, along with a text from her mom, who was one of the many who were fooled.
‘Couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work,’ Perry said in the caption of the post, sent out to her 207 million followers.
The text from her mom Mary read, ‘Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown. You look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol.’

Mary’s text also included one of the faked photos, but Perry responded to the text, ‘lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!’
Perry also shared a tweet from a fan dubbed @bredfaria, who was in New York City waiting for her arrival, with a blue butterfly cutout with Katy 143 in black.
‘I’m waiting for you mom @katyperry 143,’ he said in the tweet, with Perry’s final slide teased that she’s working on new music.
The slide was a brief video, showing her singing into a mic, though the video was muted, not giving a fans of what her new music might sound like, not yet, at least.
One of the images showed Perry in a flowing floral gown that spread out around her with flowers adorning the gown.
Another showed her with a gold breastplate with a grassy floral skirt, sporting a seemingly similar wet look to Kim Kardashian’s look in 2019.
Perry wasn’t the only celeb to be faked, with images depicting Rihanna on the red carpet surfacing, though she wasn’t there.
The 36-year-old Barbados native was planning on coming, though a report from People claimed she canceled after coming down with the flu.

She had teased last week that her 2024 Met Gala look was going to be far less complex, in interview with Extra.
‘I’m actually keeping it real simple this year. … It’s gonna come to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do,’ Rihanna said.
She added the look was, ‘Very simple-ish … compared to everything I have done,’ adding, ‘I am showing up for dinner.’
However, it’s unclear if she will showcase it in some way after she recovers from the flu.
The Rihanna image that surfaced showed the singer wearing a white gown with green vines and flowers all over it, with a huge circular pad behind her head.
Rihanna has yet to address the fake image publicly on social media at this time.
